DSD Renewables: Unveiling the Secrets to a Sustainable Future

Caesars Entertainment has completed a four-canopy, 6.5-MW solar portfolio at the casino company’s locations in Atlantic City, New Jersey, thanks to DSD Renewables. The systems, which are spread out over two distinct Caesars locations in Atlantic City, will generate around 8.29 MWh of renewable energy annually.

Caesars’ environmental commitment to support programs and actions that lessen the carbon footprint of its facilities is supported by the portfolio. Caesars is one of Atlantic City Electric’s top clients, and these solar installations will help offset around 6% of its energy requirements for the local resort facilities.

According to Eric Dominguez, SVP of Engineering & Asset Management at Caesars Entertainment, “given our ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability and the communities we serve, our partnership with DSD plays a pivotal role in helping us adopt measures to minimize our carbon footprint.” These Atlantic City initiatives serve as an example of our efforts to adopt on-site renewable energy sources across our portfolio globally while bringing genuine local benefits to the communities in where we operate.

The completed projects include solar garage canopies at Caesars Atlantic City that are 1.7 MW and 886 kW, as well as two systems at Harrah’s Resort Atlantic City that are 1.9 MW each and are located in the self-park and valet garages. The project also involves the installation of a 913 kW solar rooftop system at the Harrah’s Waterfront Conference Center, which will boost the solar portfolio to 7.4 MW by early 2024.

John Koster, regional president of the East at Caesars Entertainment, stated, “We couldn’t be happier to see this solar portfolio complete completion. This is a crucial point in our sustainable energy path. “Projects like this advocate for the introduction and expansion of sustainable energy resources that create employment and spur economic growth for the benefit of the neighborhood, just as we have done in Atlantic City. We are happy to collaborate with Gov. Phil Murphy and the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities to further the state’s energy objectives, expand employment opportunities, and promote renewable and sustainable energy sources.

The rooftop system will increase the roof’s lifespan and decrease cooling demands by reducing UV exposure, while the canopies will provide covered parking for employees and guests and save snow removal expenses. Due to the existing structural configuration, building heights, and closeness of the project sites to the shore, this adds another level of complication. With structural connections that enable steel and electrical systems to be elevated and storm-proofed, the internal canopy team at DSD developed specific engineering solutions that were designed to account for increasing wind loads and risk concerns.

Dan O’Brien, vice president of commercial origination at DSD, stated, “It’s an honor to be able to partner with Caesars to offer genuine benefit to their business and the nearby community. Our team rose to the occasion and collaborated closely with Caesars and the Casino Redevelopment Authority to complete these projects despite some unusual development challenges. The result is beyond satisfying, and we look forward to working with Caesars on further projects in the future to help them achieve their sustainability goals.

The installations were financed, created, and will be permanently owned and operated by DSD. Additional projects with Caesars Entertainment are being looked into by DSD in various locations around the US.
